What is SMSU Forensics?

Nope, we aren't a crime solving science team, but we do deal with science--just a different kind of science. The science of speaking. The SMSU Forensics team is fairly small; however, we still make our mark on the university. The team travels on weekends and sometimes on Tuesday to other colleges to compete in speaking activities. The team is great for individuals who love competition, but who don't play sports. However, the students involved in Forensics learn valuable speaking skills that they will hold with them for the rest of their lives.

Now, if you join the SMSU Forensics team, there are many different categories that you can pick from to compete in. There are categories that are known as Public Address and categories known as Interpretive Events. The Public Address categories are more formal speaking and the Interpretive Events get into more of a story and the competitors sometimes looking like they are acting. While both categories of events are formal, they are slightly different from each other. In a general sense Public Address events include topics that are informative or persuasive while Interpretive events are either prose, poetry, or drama--or a combination of all three.

Now, there is a lot more about Forensics that you will need to know. I will keep you updated on how the team is doing and what categories each person is competing in.

Have a great day!
